Deadly plane crash in Western Australia

A commercial aircraft caught fire yesterday in Kununurra, north-east of WA. The passenger has died, and the pilot is seriously injured. WA Police confirmed that the crash occurred during landing at East Kimberley Regional Airport. The plane was used by Aviair airline for commercial purpose in the region. It crashed shortly after 8:30am with two men on board. One, a man in his 50’s could not be reanimated by emergency services and died on the scene. The pilot, 29 years old, suffers severe burns and is expected to be transferred to Darwin’s hospital in the Northern Territory. Police are still trying to determine the cause of the crash; the investigation might take weeks. “Aviair will continue to work with authorities and no further comment will be provided at this time”, the company managing director Michael McConachy stated.
