Update on our position regarding the current situation in Ukraine and Russia.

[Fake media statement on a company reacting to the Russian war in Ukraine]

As previously announced, the Walt Disney Company Russia will pause all theatrical film releases in the Russian Federation, effective immediately and for an indefinite period of time. This includes our upcoming films like “the Batman” or “Turning Red” from Pixar. As the Russian people have always been great supporters of our work, we believe that they deserve clarification on what led us to this decision.

Since 1923, Walt Disney prides itself for being a source of entertainment for children and adults in Russia and around the world. In the past 99 years, our company grew up to create movies, animated pictures, amusement parks, Tv shows and many more contents… We’re confident that we will still be able to create and share content that inspire people across the globe. And notably in Russia if the context allows it one day.

Our team is one very much involved in this country and loves its people and culture. Our goal never was and never will be to close the Disney doors to Russians without any serious and legitimate reasons. However, although we hope to resume the strong links that tight us to Russia, the current context of an unprovoked invasion of a peaceful country makes it impossible to continue doing business as usual. The military invasion of Ukraine and the resulting deaths of thousands are a great concern for our direction and employees across the world.

Through this decision, we hope to send a clear signal that Disney do not support the escalation of violence in any ways. We call for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict.

The Walt Disney Company hereby reaffirms its calls for the laying down of arms in Ukraine. We urge the Russian Federation to ensure the safety of all parties involved in order to allow the restauration of rule of law and freedom in Ukraine. Through this statement, we hope to have provided a clarification on what led us to take such an unprecedented decision.

Our Company also announced that it will be working with non-governmental-organization partners to “provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees", as announced by one of our spokespersons in a previous statement. More details will follow on the concrete actions taken in that regard. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation in Russia and Ukraine, in order to take the appropriate steps in the future.

The Russian culture has always been an inspiration for millions around the world. We hope to reconnect with its richness as soon as the situation will allow us to do so.
